Carol Aims to Ease to Crown

Scotland’s fastest young lady racer, Carol Brown (21), is aiming to celebrate her birthday by moving closer to winning the SMRC Legends Cars Championship at Knockhill this weekend.

Having turned 21 earlier in the week, the Falkirk-based flyer will head to the Fife circuit on Sunday looking to add to her tally of race wins and put her in pole position to claim the title.

However, with only two rounds remaining after this weekend and with a comfortable lead in the standings Carol will try to temper her usual flat-out style to ensure she does not slip-up, knowing that consistent finishing and picking up points is now more important than outright wins.

Carol has dominated the championship all season, regularly carving through from the back of the grid to claim race wins – leaving more experienced male drivers in her wake.

Having shown such potential she has already been offered a test with a top British Touring Car Championship team.  The youngster has also recently signed a management deal to become stable-mate to Scotland’s only World Rally Championship driver Barry Clark, and is looking to go professional next year if she can find enough financial backing.

Carol’s preferred next step is to compete in one of the BTCC support series’ next year, such as the Renault Clio Cup or SEAT Cupra Championship.  However, this will require finding a significant five-figure budget, and Brown hopes that winning the SMRC Legends Cars Championship in style will encourage Scottish companies to sponsor her.

Carol Brown said: “I’m confident about this weekend but I’m just trying to keep myself ahead in the championship. I just need to protect my lead now and finish in the points, which may mean staying out of trouble and driving a bit more conservatively. That’s easier said than done though, because as soon as I put my helmet on I just want to win! Hopefully my performances this season have made people sit up and take notice, as I want to go on and test myself at a higher level and to do that I need to attract sponsors who want to be associated with success and can fund a winning programme at national level.”
