Showtime in the Square for Brown

05.08.2008

Scottish race driver Carol Brown will take centre stage as Glasgow is gripped by motorsport fever.

She will join some of Britain’s top motorsport stars demonstrating their skills in front fans packed into George Square for Superbikes in the Square 2008.

The free event is a warm-up to the two biggest motor-racing weekends in Scotland this year - the latest rounds of the prestigious Bennetts British Superbike Championship (August 9/10) and the HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship (August 16/17) at Knockhill racing circuit, Fife.

Warm-up action starts at 4pm and fans will have the opportunity to meet riders and drivers who will be signing autographs and showcasing their machines in the ‘pit and paddock’ area.

When the action proper kicks off at 5.30pm, rising star Brown will take her 1250cc Yahama-powered Legends race car on demo laps of the square alongside motorsport luminaries such as Superbike champion Shane 'Shakey' Byrne and Touring Car ace Gordon Shedden.

Having moved closer to clinching the SMRC Legends Cars Championship after an incident-filled day of racing at Knockhill last Sunday, the Falkirk-based flyer is looking forward to a slightly more relaxed outing in the centre of Glasgow - despite the huge amount of interest in the event.

Carol Brown said: "I'm really looking forward to Superbikes in the Square, it should be a great event. The big crowds won't faze me, I'm a woman and I like all the attention. It will also be a fantastic experience for me to be driving alongside some of the famous names taking part. I'll be acting as an ambassador for Legends Racing and hopefully if people like what they see they will come along to watch the Legends at Knockhill on a regular basis.”
